Si je parle \u00ab d\u2019extinction \u00bb, qu\u2019est-ce que cela \u00e9voque pour vous  ? L’une des premi\u00e8res images qui vous vient \u00e0 l\u2019esprit est celle d’un panda ou, en remontant plus loin dans l\u2019histoire, des dinosaures. En effet lorsque le danger de disparition d’une esp\u00e8ce vivante fait la une de l’actualit\u00e9, elle appartient en g\u00e9n\u00e9ral au r\u00e8gne animal. Pourtant, selon une \u00e9tude r\u00e9cente, le v\u00e9ritable danger porte sur l\u2019extinction des plantes<\/strong>.<\/p>\n

<\/p>\n

Les r\u00e9sultats de l’\u00e9tude<\/h2>\n

Nous sommes toujours plus (ou moins ?) sensibilis\u00e9s aux probl\u00e9matiques environnementales. Il arrive parfois, malgr\u00e9 tout, que de nouvelles recherches scientifiques parviennent \u00e0 nous \u00e9tonner par des r\u00e9sultats malheureusement peu r\u00e9confortants. C\u2019est le cas de l\u2019\u00e9tude men\u00e9e par les chercheurs de l\u2019Universit\u00e9 de Stockholm<\/strong> en collaboration avec les Royal Botanic Gardens<\/strong> de Kew (\u00e0 une dizaine de km au sud-ouest de Londres), r\u00e9cemment publi\u00e9e dans la revue sp\u00e9cialis\u00e9e Nature Ecology & Evolution<\/a>.<\/p>\n

Selon les donn\u00e9es recueillies, quelque 571 esp\u00e8ces de plantes ont d\u00e9j\u00e0 disparu, <\/strong>au cours des 250 derni\u00e8res ann\u00e9es. En comparant les r\u00e9sultats du r\u00e8gne animal \u00e0 la m\u00eame p\u00e9riode, le nombre d\u2019esp\u00e8ces disparues s\u2019\u00e9l\u00e8ve \u00e0 271 : loin d\u2019\u00eatre positif, ce chiffre parvient toute de m\u00eame \u00e0 donner une id\u00e9e plus concr\u00e8te de l\u2019ampleur du probl\u00e8me \u00e9voqu\u00e9 ici.<\/p>\n

L\u2019extinction des plantes s’aggrave<\/h2>\n

Selon les chercheurs, si le chiffre est n\u00e9gatif en ce qui concerne le pass\u00e9, il ne l\u2019est pas moins lorsque nous envisageons le futur. Il r\u00e9v\u00e8le un taux d\u2019extinction des esp\u00e8ces v\u00e9g\u00e9tales 500 fois sup\u00e9rieur \u00e0 la normale<\/strong>.<\/p>\n

Ce constat est d\u00fb \u00e0 plusieurs facteurs, des changements climatiques \u00e0 la d\u00e9forestation, et tous ont comme d\u00e9nominateur commun minimum l’intervention anthropique. Voici pourquoi il est fondamental de prendre ces chiffres en consid\u00e9ration, de s\u2019interroger sur les mesures qui peuvent \u00eatre prises pour inverser le cours des \u00e9v\u00e9nements et commencer peu \u00e0 peu \u00e0 r\u00e9duire cette donn\u00e9e.<\/p>\n

Un rapport r\u00e9cent de l\u2019IPBES<\/a> (Intergovernmental Science-Policy Platform on Biodiversity and Ecosystem Services), la Plateforme intergouvernementale scientifique et politique de l\u2019Onu<\/strong> sur la biodiversit\u00e9 et les services \u00e9cosyst\u00e9miques, a lui aussi mis l’accent sur ce sujet avec un chiffre agr\u00e9g\u00e9 entre les r\u00e8gnes v\u00e9g\u00e9tal et animal<\/strong> : selon ce rapport, l\u2019on estime qu\u2019un million d\u2019esp\u00e8ces environ est \u00e0 risque<\/strong> d\u2019extinction d\u2019ici quelques ann\u00e9es.<\/p>\n
