Every month, a word and a book you won’t want to miss.
What could be lovelier than sitting in front of a crackling fire and losing yourself in a good book? That’s exactly what we had in mind when we came up with the idea for this column. To tell the truth, we didn’t just think about books, but also about words. In particular, those that hold special meaning for us. Each of these words will inspire our choice of a book which, once a month, we’ll recommend you read.
This will give rise to a sort of Palazzetti vocabulary – a collection of words that speak of us, our values, our sense of responsibility and our desire to contribute, even if only in the tiniest way, to making this world a better place. You’ll find these words alongside every article, like entries in a reimagined dictionary, each time capable of inspiring new thoughts and new stories.
Then it will be up to you, our readers, to play your part. You will be the recipients of these stories. Books possess great power; they never truly belong to those who write them. They are gifts that are shared across time and space, and in doing so are enriched with new meanings. They are not repositories of absolute truth, nor, far from it, of a single interpretation, because stories, since the dawn of time, have woven their way through our lives, taking something from us before becoming someone else’s tale.
Storytelling has always been part of the human experience. We are our stories, and stories deserve to be told. Then they must be set free to travel the world in a sort of game of chess between the writer and the reader, capable of giving meaning to who we are and what we do.
